February 20-Fishers of Men

Leviticus 1-2

Psalm 24

Proverbs 6:1-3

Mark 1:1-20

Fishers of Men

“Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed Him.” Mark 1:17-18

Jesus was talking to fishermen and used language they would understand. If He was talking to a doctor He might tell them to follow Him and He would make them healers of the sick. If He was talking to a lawyer He might tell them to follow Him and He will make them defenders of the oppressed. God wants to use each of us right where we are to bring people to Him. We are not all called to be pastors or ministers, but we are all called to be witnesses. Wherever we are, God has called us to tell others about Him. Whether we are at work, at school, on the ball field, or at the gym, he expects us to tell others about Him. We do not have to be bible scholars to proclaim what He has done for us. We are to be fishers of men wherever we are. We do not have to convince—that is the work of the Holy Spirit. We are called to proclaim. These verses tell us that Peter and Andrew at once left their nets and followed Him. When we are given opportunities to witness we often hesitate and think about how the other person will react and we miss the chance to share Jesus with them. Take a few moments now to pray that God will give you an opportunity today to share what Jesus has done in your life and that you will immediately respond to His leading.
