Holy Week Wednesday

Holy Week

Wednesday

Scripture References-Psalm 46:10, Mark 1:35, Luke 4:42

We do not know what Jesus did on Wednesday of Holy Week. The disciples meticulously told us everything He did that week. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John each gave accounts of Jesus’ activities each day, but that day there is nothing recorded. If they had known what He did, it seems that they would have recorded it, but they didn’t. We can guess, but it would only be a guess. We know from the verses above in Mark and Luke that it was His regular practice to go to a solitary place to pray. Tuesday was a very long day confronting the religious leaders and teaching His followers. Looking ahead, He knew that the next two days would be very difficult. It makes sense that He would take a day to rest and prepare Himself for what was to come. It is important that we have periods of rest as well. We lead very busy lives. Covid gave us all an opportunity to slow down and rest. It forced us to stay home, spend time with family and stop the frenzied, hectic pace that we had become accustomed to. We were designed to need regular periods of rest. But now that things are “back to normal,” we have all returned to the same hectic pace. One of the Ten Commandments tells us to honor the Sabbath Day and keep it holy. We were intended to take one day a week to rest and focus on God. On that day we are not supposed to work or do any labor. It is a day for us to draw close to God, focus on Him, and rest our bodies for the week ahead. If Jesus needed periods of rest, how much more do we need it?
