Creator God
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning, God created……” Those first words in Genesis 1 lay the groundwork for the entire history of the world. It says so much about our Creator. God is love and out of that love, he created. John 1:3 says, “Through Him all things were made, without Him nothing was made that has been made.” God created everything that has been created. The Latin phrase, ex nihilo, means creating something out of nothing. Only God can do that. He looked at nothingness around Him and spoke everything we see into existence. You can’t look at the world we live in and not come to the same conclusion as David did when he wrote Psalm 19:1. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies declare the work of His hands.”
Although man would argue that the world was just some cosmic accident, I believe it takes a lot more faith to believe that all the beauty of this world and the intricate details of His creation just happened one day out of a big bang. When we examine the vastness of the universe and at the same time look at the detail and complexity of even the smallest creature, it is incomprehensible to deny or even doubt that it was indeed a loving, powerful, sovereign God who created all things. It is fitting that we begin this year, acknowledging that God created and sustains all things. Acts 17:28 says, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” Let us keep our eyes and attention focused on God as we approach the year before us.
