Mindful of Us
“What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands, you have put all things under his feet.” Psalm 8:4-6 ESV
David recognized the majesty and splendor of God. He understood that God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He is above all and beyond all! He is the King of the world seated on His throne in heaven. It amazed him that God would even notice him much less care about him. He was blown away by the fact that God listens to his needs and responds personally and that He would give man dominion over all He created and would entrust us with caring for it.
Does it amaze us or do we take it for granted? The Almighty, all-powerful, all-knowing God of all that is cares about me. He sees every tear that falls from my eyes. He knows my joys and my sorrows. He feels my pain and He hears my cries for help. He knows the number of hairs on my head and He knows the number of my days. He knows all of the details of all of the problems in my life now and in the future and He is working them out for my good. He loves me so much that He provided everything necessary for me to be in relationship with Him. Out of the billions of people who have ever lived on the earth, He chose me to be His child. He wanted me!
He desires for me to spend time with Him. He wants to talk to me and get to know Him better. He takes the time to mold me and make me into the person He created me to be. He is patient and gentle as He slowly, painstakingly develops me. In all of my failures, He never gives up on me. When I am unfaithful, He continues to be faithful. When I repeat the same sin I have done many times, He forgives me and encourages me to try again. I can’t wrap my head around His majesty and at the same time I can’t grasp His intimacy.
Being mindful means I am on His mind. I am mindful of my two daughters. I’m not consciously thinking about them every moment but they are always in the back of my mind. It only takes the smallest thing to bring them to conscious thought. I don’t have to be reminded to think about them. I don’t have to set an alarm on my phone to remember to talk to them. They are on my mind because I love them. It is astounding that God is mindful of me because He loves me personally and deeply. Take a moment today to ponder on this and grasp the wonder of it. Thank Him for being mindful of you.
